Stitches is an ‘above and beyond’ type of event –- especially the first time, when there’s a lot of flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of activity. Lots of extra effort by everyone; employees, family and friends. If I started to thank them all this would start to sound like an Academy Awards speech, so let’s just say they know they are much appreciated!
Here are a few of my favorite and unexpected things about the weekend.
The Viking Hats
I love things that work on multiple levels. I am proud of Sarah’s creativity and happy others recognized it. I loved watching everyone’s reaction (really everybody!) as they walked by the booth and said “Oh look, how cute!” Not only did people stop to visit us to see the hats but they all had a smile on their face because of them. The baby hats sold out twice. Good sales are nice, but happy customers are priceless.
Just in case you were wondering if all those mini-purse key chains were popular - they were. Hundreds of customers took a minute to sign up for our mailing list and another five minutes to pick their favorite color. Funny.
The Yarn Jars
We used tall glass jars from IKEA to display yarn colors and stored the rest of the yarn under our tables. You would not believe how many people stopped to ask about the jars! It gave Robin an opening to swoop in and explain all about our projects -- a great chance for us to chat with lots and lots of other knitters.
Let’s face it: we are knitters, first and foremost. Getting out to shop and network with other knitters and shop owners is the reason we are all there. We’ll show you some of our personal finds over the next few days. We got to meet some knitters we admire, like Cookie A., and I had the chance to participate in my first podcast with the ladies from Stash and Burn! (We’ll let you know when it airs.)
The most popular items in our booth included the Baby Viking Hats (soon available in larger sizes), the Cable Knit Purses, stand alone Purse Straps, Silk Insert Scarves and the new non-Garter Log Cabin Blanket (which will be on the website soon.) Thanks to everyone that stopped by the booth to visit. The show ended up being absolutely everything we had hoped for. We'll definitely be back next year!
